Housing Works NYC Wedding
Emily and Linda began their day at the stunning Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manhattan. Not only does the hotel have gorgeous decor and light for getting ready, but it is also chock-full of fun, quirky locations for couples shots: look at the ladies jumping up and down on furniture on the roof! Getting ready together is one of my favorite things because it makes for such great photos: I love how Emily and Linda flopped out on the couch to relax in their very different dresses that incorporated the same fabric. Then it was time to catch a cab to the Housing Works Bookstore in Soho. This was my first bookstore wedding, and I was beyond excited. The venue was perfect for the intimate, cozy, and deeply personal ceremony that Linda and Emily shared with family and friends. And, the best idea ever? Instead of table numbers, Emily and Linda named their tables after famous lesbian authors: Gertrude Stein, Adrienne Rich, and Sappho, to name just a few.
August in NYC // Weather: Hot, it’s August people // Favorite light time for shots: 6:50pm//
Getting Ready: 4:00 // Couple Shots: 6:00-7:00 // Ceremony Start: 7:20 // Reception Started: 8:00
Venue Love: Housing Works is like the library you snuck in and madeout by the stacks of books. Tons of charm. // Fun thing to think about: Emily and Linda used the same fabric in different ways in two very different wedding dresses.
Lesson learned: Even if you’re in NYC, getting a cab may be difficult. Just call one and have them pick up at a certain time.
Best thing ever: Getting ready together. It always is a great choice. I did it!!
