Brooklyn Day After Wedding Shoot with Ice Cream

I was lucky enough to meet Odie and David at Becca and Jason’s wedding in LA. When they mentioned they lived in Brooklyn and had just gotten married I was DYING to do a day-after rock-the-dress or what-have-you shoot with them. I love doing day-after shoots because they allow couples to get shots that are just impossible given the time-constraints of a wedding day. After all, a wedding is a wedding not a photo shoot.To get those super-fun portraits you see on blogs and in magazines, you need time and no worries about getting the hem of your dress a little dusty or your suit creased. No one to prod you along to the next thing. And for me, day-after shoots allow for the special kind of creativity that requires a little more time.

So, Natalie and I met up with Odie and David in Dumbo on a gorgeous summer afternoon and got to run around and play with the amazing light. We found some old traffic barriers and a rusted out metal box, a vintage bike, and some amazing graffiti. And of course, we had to end the shoot with ice cream. Odie and David really knew how to work it with an ice cream cone. The shoot was a blast, and I’m lucky to call them friends.

We found this rusty metal box. I have no idea what it was used for but I almost melted when I saw it. Dumbo just has so many surprise finds. So in heels mind you, Odie went into this rusting box without blinking her eyelashes. This was a far cry from the ballroom wedding couple shots she got weeks before and was so much fun to do.

It’s so much fun to not worry about rushing to the ceremony or cocktail hour. With a day after shoot, we have plenty of time to relax and laugh. Explore locations. And we are shooting in perfect light- can you hear the angels sing?

After enjoying the cobblestone streets of Brooklyn, we needed a sweet treat. And Dumbo has a perfect spot with waterfront views and ice cream! How cute is David eating that cone?
